The Staff at the Visitor Centre seem to be funded by Lancashire County Council who have said that there will be cuts starting from December 2017 – details in the link below
Since this news there has been extensive coverage in the local and national media relating to Child Poverty in the West End of Morecambe and hopefully these issues will be addressed. In the meantime the image of Morecambe as a Tourist destination will have suffered.
It is essential that there is funding for the Tourist Information Centre at Morecambe. In addition there should be a dedicated Marketing office for The Morecambe, Heysham and Carnforth coastline as there is no specific office.
There is an organisation @MorecambeBayUK which does much for the area and arranges the Vintage Festival The popular Morecambe Carnival is mainly run by fantastic volunteers. The @MoreMusic1 at the West End arranges the Kite Festival. Lancaster City Council helps Morecambe and also VisitLancashire @VisitLancashire and @marketingLancs have advertising and promotional connections and recently did a joint Lancaster and Morecambe Advert which is very helpful.
The business development area of Central Morecambe is run by John at @MorecambeBID and is doing a great job with many projects including Christmas Lights and signage.
£4.13 Billion was generated in Tourism in Lancashire in the latest information from Marketing Lancashire with 75 Million Visitors. Hopefully there will be no cuts to the Tourism office in Morecambe as Tourism Investment=Jobs. In fact more needs to be invested with #Brexit and more people having a #Staycation.
In the meantime “Bring me Sunshine.”
